Reflections on "Transsexualism and Sex Reassignment" 1969 -1999 Has Sex Reassignment Marked Psychic Consequences? Mormont, Michel A., UnivesitJ de LiP ge, Belgium Since 1953, date of the first sex reassignment surgery, many candidates for sex reassignment use this surgery in order to harmonize their gender identity with their anatomy. A literature review (more than 100 references) concerning the follow up of operated transsexuals, allows to notice that several works were interested in the social, professional, and surgical future of transsexuals. We have to point out that a very few authors were interested in the intrapsychic changes of such a mutation. Facing up this lack, we got in touch with 15 transsexuals (7FM, 8MF) operated for at least 2 years. To everyone, we gave the Rorschach and other projective tests. The aim of this research is to compare the Rorschach protocols before and after surgery (we had this material before surgery). It seemed to us that such a transfer should have a psychic impact marked in the test-retest comparison. Our analysis will concern the variables inherent in the cluster of self perception but also the global analysis of the different variables of the Exner system. |
