The Transsexual Family

CECCINI, M.G. Italy
Co-authors: L. Chianura & S. Iacoella (Italy)
E-mail: alecipolloni@hotmail.com

This work is the result of the authors’ clinical experiences with persons with a gender identity disorder and their families, that applied to the "SAIFIP-Servizio per l’adeguamento tra l’identita fisica e l’identita psichica", San Comillo Hospital, Rome. The clinical experience was supported by clinical literature, while there are few experimental studies in this field. Using the "genogram", a diagram with graphic symbols that can represent the family’s structure, the authors studied a group of transsexuals to begin to know the family context, the multigenerational family history, the states of family life cycle and it’s nodal events, and the sexual roles of individuals in transsexual families. This work also contains some aims for familiar and individual counseling and therapy.
