Gender transition in the workplace

Abstract

Following the decision of the European Court of Justice of April 30th 1996 (P v Cornwall County Council), employers in the UK cannot now dismiss a Transsexual person on the grounds of their condition or treatment.

This has lead to a larger number of our clients than ever before transitioning in the workplace. By virtue of a specially designed programme to educate employers and work colleagues the process of transition and re-integration has, in the majority of situations, been successful.

We explain the programme, highlight the reasons for its success and indicate particular situations that have mitigated against successful gender transition in he workplace being achieved.
