German Standards for the Treatment and Diagnostic Assessment of Transsexuals

The Code for Transsexuals (TSG) was passed into law in Germany in 1980, and is legally connected with the postulates defined in the laws controlling changes of name and sex. Compulsory rules and guidelines for treating and diagnostically assessing transsexuals, however, do not yet exist. The "Standards of Care", first laid down by the Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association in 1979 and since revised several times, have only a limited applicability in a German context. For this reason, the German Society for Sexual Research formed an expert commission chaired by Sophinette Becker to formulate the following "Standards for the Treatment and Diagnostic Assessment of Transsexuals".

Standards der Behandlung und Begutachtung von Transsexuellen der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Sexualforschung, der Akademie für Sexualmedizin und der Gesellschaft für Sexualwissenschaft

Seit 1980 gibt es in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland das Transsexuellengesetz (TSG), das die juristischen Voraussetzungen der Vornamens- und Personenstandsänderung regelt. Es existieren jedoch bislang keine verbindlichen Richtlinien für die Behandlung und Begutachtung von Transsexuellen. Die 1979 erstmals vorgelegten und seitdem mehrfach überarbeiteten "Standards of Care" der Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association sind auf deutsche Verhältnisse nur begrenzt anwendbar. Deshalb wurden die folgenden "Standards der Behandlung und Begutachtung von Transsexuellen" von einer von der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Sexualforschung einberufenen Expertenkommission unter der Leitung von Sophinette Becker erarbeitet.
