Chapter 3: Follow-up studies in chronological order
Sadoughi, Jayaram & Bush, 1978
Cook County Hospital, Chicago, IL, USA
This publication, that is
based exclusively on psychological tests, is mentioned
here because it was printed in the renowned professional
Archives of Sexual Behavior. Its simplicity is
impressive. Probably a partial sample of the publication
Jayaram et al. (1978) is described.

Methods
Tennessee Self-Concept Scale, pre-post
application, immediately before and six months after
surgery.
Results
Pre-surgically, the patients were
described on the test profiles as "antisocial
personalities characterized by emotional immaturity, lack
of sense of responsibility and low frustration
tolerance" (p. 348), who were preoccupied with their
bodies and barely happy about themselves.
Post-surgically, the test profiles show
significant changes (p<.01) in the scale "social
self", "general self esteem", "self
satisfaction", but in which direction is not
mentioned. In the scale "physical self", there
were no significant changes.
Authors' Conclusion
The authors conclude from the test results
that the denying of the male anatomy in the patient goes
so far that the body is already pre-surgically
experienced as being feminine. The authors hope by
testing a larger sample to attain an aid for the
differential diagnostical surgical indication.
